New Yarn, Empty Rooms, and a Bit of Christmas Magic
It’s been one of those weeks where real life and shop life have tangled together — a lot of driving, a few tears, and quite a lot of yarn.
At the start of the week, I made the long drive down to Oxford to drop Harry back at university. It’s always a funny mix of pride and sadness, isn’t it? You pack the car, you chat the whole way down, and then suddenly you’re driving home again — just you, the motorway, and a head full of thoughts.
The house feels strange with both older boys away now. There’s space where there used to be noise, and somehow it’s too quiet (and yes, less washing — but I’m sure Grace and Leon will fix that soon enough!).
Back in the shop though, there’s absolutely no sign of quiet…
Yarn, Glorious Yarn
The shelves are overflowing again — and that’s never a bad thing!
Stylecraft Special Chunky is now in, perfect for those snuggly winter throws and big cosy jumpers. Sirdar Jewelspun Ombre has arrived too — the colours in this are just stunning, every ball looks like a piece of art. And the new Sirdar Soft Down DK is full of bright, cheerful shades and feels so soft you’ll want to crochet with it straight away.
I’d love to know — what are your favourite yarns? Is there a brand, blend or fibre you’d love me to stock next? I’m planning the next few orders soon, so tell me what’s on your wish list!

Christmas Display — Join the Magic!
Our Higher Wheelton Christmas Display is coming together beautifully! The reindeer are multiplying, the trees are getting their yarny decorations, and the bench stripes are growing by the day. It’s going to look amazing.
We’re raising funds for Derian House and St Catherine’s Hospice, and it’s been lovely seeing everyone’s contributions come in — from tiny snowflakes to full-on knitted Santas!
If you’d like to be part of it, join us for a Making Day at The Golden Lion on Tuesday 4th November. You don’t need to be an expert — just bring some enthusiasm. If you would like to join us, please let me know. We are there from 11am to around 4pm, and the landlord is doing us sharing platters for lunch along with Tea and Coffee. It's £7.00 if you would like lunch.
And Finally...
So that’s life at the moment — a mix of motorway miles, yarn deliveries, and glittery Christmas prep.
It’s busy, but it’s good busy. The kind that reminds me how lucky I am to have this little shop, our Craft Shedquarters community, and all of you who keep cheering us on.
Take care,
Dymphna xx
